Job Description and Responsibilities:
Robert supervises the production of recombinant anti-hemophilic Factor VIII. That means he manages the tools, processes, and technicians involved in the manufacture of Factor VIII.
Personal Background:
Robert received a B.A. in Zoology from the University of New Hampshire in 1969. He had several managerial jobs before joining Bozeman Organ Company in Deerfield, NH where he was Office Manager for 15 years. He attended the first evening class of the NHCTC Biotechnology program given in the Spring semester of 1995 because he wanted to get back to his biological roots. After completing the Biotechnology Certificate, he joined Genetics Institute (GI) as a Process Technician in January 1996. Due to his biotechnology and managerial skills he was quickly promoted to Senior Process Technician in 1997, to Technical Trainer in September 1998, and to his current position as Process Supervisor in July 2000.
Commonly Used Skills and Techniques:
Robert manages a Factor VIII cell culture suite that is full of stainless steel equipment such as process-controlled bioreactors and buffer tanks with associated valves and tubing. He manages the process technicians that grow out the cells that make recombinant Factor VIII. He is also responsible for the batch record and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the Factor VIII cell culture fed-batch process.
