Responsibilities: |
Individual will initiate and manage all aspects of Biomaterials pre-clinical research programs. The individual will be responsible for applying a wide range of scientific principles for the treatment of orthopaedic and general musculoskeletal diseases and conditions. This will involve extensive collaboration with third party contract research organizations, as well as internally performed work.
The successful candidate should have particular expertise in the area of orthopaedic biomaterials and biomechanics, with an emphasis on in vivo and ex vivo experimentation. Excellent technical writing experience, along with the ability to critically review and originate technical testing and experimental protocols and reports in a timely manner is required. The individual will also be expected to possess, and maintain, broad knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories in this area by attending and contributing to scientific conferences.
• Under the direction of Supervisor, independently manage pre-clinical research programs and projects.
• Assist team members in the design and development of appropriate pre-clinical testing strategies.
• Develop and write project specific protocols and testing plans.
• Work closely with outside organizations in the implementation and execution of research programs.
• Evaluate and recommend investigators for research studies, as needed.
• Identify, review and research emerging or innovative technologies, as needed.
• Develop publications or presentations for professional journals or meetings.
• Attend relevant professional, scientific, and technical meetings.
• Adhere to accuracy and timeliness of Development Plans and milestones.
• Maintain professional, product and market expertise via independent reading, training and networking.

Qualifications: |
• Ph.D. or Masters in biomedical engineering, life sciences, or relevant engineering field is required.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and conduct pre-clinical research programs.
• Knowledge and experience with new product development and introduction processes are essential. Experience with orthopaedic devices is a preferred.
• Demonstrated understanding of the potential effects of alternative or innovative biomaterials, biologics and/or therapies.
Experience with drug delivery, combination products required for consideration.
