A. Preparation
- Be sure the rotor is properly seated on the motor shaft hub. The two notches on the underside of the rotor should engage the drive pins protruding from the hub.
- Secure the rotor by holding the outside while firmly tightening the knurled rotor nut.
- Connect the transformer to the centrifuge and plug into an electrical outlet.
- Press the centrifuge down firmly on a smooth surface so that the suction cup feet will lock the centrifuge in place.
- When removing the rotor, gently rock from side to side while lifting.
- Always let the rotor stop before opening the cover. The pilot light will go off when the rotor is stopped.
- In order to open cover, the solenoid unit must be plugged in. Do not force cover open.
- The operating temperature of the centrifuge and tubes should be between 4 and 56 degrees C.
B. Loading
- Always load an even number of microcentrifuge tubes.
- Always use the same size tube in opposite positions.
- Always balance the liquid in opposite tubes within 75 µl.
- Always be sure the tubes are seated all the way down in the rotor nest.
- Always close the caps on the tubes.
C. Controls
- Momentary Operation: Turn rotary switch to "pulse" and rotor will spin only while "start" button is pressed.
- Timed Operation: Set rotary switch to desired number of minutes and press "start" button. Unit will beep at the end of the timed run. If the cover is lifted during a run, the rotor will stop but the timer will continue to count.
- Continuous Operation: Set rotary switch to "continuous" position and press "start" button. To stop, set switch back to "pulse" position.
- Speed Operation: Set rotary switch to required speed from 1000 to 10,000 rpm and press "start" button.
D. Safety
- Use only standard microcentrifuge tubes as described in the instruction manual. Make sure that tubes fit and are positioned properly.
- Avoid opening cover while rotor is spinning (pilot light is on). If cover is opened, rotor will brake to a complete stop within about 5 seconds.
- Routinely inspect centrifuge and rotor for cleanliness and damage. Do not run with any signs of damage.
- Do not use cracked tubes or tubes whose filters or caps do not fit properly.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or ultraviolet light. Keep lid closed when not in use.
- A new rotor should be installed annually.
E. Troubleshooting
- Scraping sound: Stop motor, open cover, and look for signs of a problem. Remove tubes and run again. If scraping persists, make certain rotor is seated properly with shaft pins in rotor notches.
- Excessive vibration: This is a sign of unbalance. Check rotor for position of tubes opposite each other, and check tubes for balanced weight.
