Before you begin:
- Stir all buffers.
- Always rinse the electrode and temperature probe and blot dry. Do the same when transferring from one solution to another.
- Always use the temperature probe when calibrating or taking a pH measurement. This will ensure correct, temperature compensated measurements.
Calibration:
- Turn on power switch located in back.
- Now remove the green cover at the bottom of the electrode.
- Press pH/degree C key so that pH is showing.
- Place the pH probe and the temperature probe in pH 7 buffer. Wait for the small triangular flag (located at the lower left hand corner of the LCD screen) to stop flashing.
- Press CAL key. CAL flag will flash.
Press pH 7 key. CAL flag will be stable.
- Rinse and use kimwipes to blot the probes.
- Place the probes into either the pH 4 or pH 10 buffer. Wait for the flag to stabilize.
- Press CAL key. CAL flag will flash.
Press pH 4/10 key. CAL flag will be stable.
- You have completed the calibration and may now take a pH measurement.
Measurement:
- Immerse the electrode and the temperature probe into a sample and read when the flag is stable.
- Rinse again and blot dry.
- When finished, replace the green cover onto the end of the electrode.
- At the end of the class, rinse the electrode, blot dry, replace the green cover onto the end of the electrode, and turn off the power switch located in back.
